Southside Houston heavyweight Joshua “The Rocket” Edwards continued his rapid ascent through the professional ranks, overpowering Detroit’s Craig Lewis at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.

From the opening round, “The Rocket” launched himself at Lewis, showcasing explosive power and sharp footwork that proved too much for his opponent. Edwards controlled the action through the first two rounds, forcing Lewis to stay on his stool and refuse to come out for the third, securing another impressive victory.

The 2024 Olympian has wasted little time making his mark since turning professional. After signing with Golden Boy Promotions in January 2025, Edwards made his pro debut that April with a second-round knockout and has continued to build momentum with an active schedule. With eight professional victories to his name, Edwards has quickly established himself as one of the heavyweight division’s most promising young talents.

Edwards’ success comes as no surprise to those familiar with his decorated amateur background. In 2021, Edwards captured the USA Boxing super heavyweight national title, laying the foundation for his Olympic journey and professional success. Ranked No. 1 by USA Boxing, he made a major statement on the international stage in 2023 by capturing gold at the Pan American Games, defeating Cuban standout Abner Teixeira in the final. The victory secured his place on Team USA for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, making him just the second Texas native to reach that milestone after boxing legend George Foreman in 1968.

Under the guidance of respected trainers Ronnie Shields and Melvin Malone, Edwards continues to develop into a formidable force in the heavyweight division. His journey nearly took a different turn during high school, when he considered leaving boxing to pursue basketball. However, Malone helped redirect his focus toward the sport, a decision that would prove pivotal.

With explosive power, impressive mobility and the determination to keep climbing, “The Rocket” is living up to his name and sending a clear message to the heavyweight division: his rise is only just beginning.
