Gael Cabrera is steadily establishing himself as one of Sonora’s brightest rising stars in boxing.

On August 1, the unbeaten prospect brought that momentum to Las Vegas, earning a unanimous decision victory over Mexico’s Francisco Portillo on the William Zepeda vs. Lamont Roach Jr. undercard. The performance marked another important step forward as Cabrera continues his climb through the super bantamweight ranks.

Earlier this year, Cabrera headlined a private charity event benefiting the Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation, where he won a unanimous decision victory. With seven of his wins coming by knockout, the Ciudad Obregón native has quickly earned a reputation for combining technical skill with finishing power.

Since turning professional in June 2023, Cabrera has wasted little time making an impression. He announced his arrival with a first-round knockout of Ulises Gabriel Rosales and has remained unbeaten ever since, steadily adding to his resume with a string of impressive victories and highlight-reel stoppages.

Before entering the professional ranks, Cabrera compiled an outstanding amateur career that established him as one of Mexico’s top young talents. Across more than 200 amateur bouts and several accolades, he developed the well-rounded style and ring IQ that continue to serve him at the professional level.

Nicknamed “El Terror,” Cabrera began boxing at age four, inspired by his older brother Misael. Now training under Manny Robles alongside elite fighters such as Oscar Valdez, Serhii Bohachuk and Armando “Toro” Resendiz, he continues to sharpen his athleticism and knockout power as he looks to climb the ranks and bring pride to his hometown and country.
