From being a “Kid” to fulfilling a lifelong dream, Floyd Schofield is THE NEW WBA Lightweight World Champion!

Schofield captured the vacant title with a unanimous decision victory over Lucas Bahdi in an action-packed showdown at Chicago’s Wintrust Arena on Oct. 10. Just in time for spooky season, the two warriors delivered a thrilling back-and-forth battle, with both fighters scoring knockdowns. Schofield came out applying relentless pressure through the opening rounds before Bahdi found his rhythm midway through the fight. However, Schofield made the necessary adjustments, showcasing his boxing IQ and composure to secure the victory and claim the world title. It was an unforgettable night as Golden Boy brought championship boxing back to the Windy City.

The victory comes after Schofield’s impressive first-round stoppage of Tevin Farmer in their scheduled 10-round bout at Honda Center in Anaheim. The dominant performance marked a pivotal moment in his career, building momentum as he pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a world champion. Now, with that goal accomplished, the undefeated “Kid Austin” has officially arrived at the top of the division and is ready to make his mark among boxing’s elite.

Schofield continued to build momentum throughout 2024, capturing the WBA International Lightweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Rene Giron in the main event at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas in November. Despite hitting the canvas in the 11th round, Schofield regrouped and battled his way to the decision, demonstrating the resilience, determination and composure that would become defining qualities of his rise through the division.

Since making his professional debut in October 2020 with a first-round knockout of Richard Esquibel, Schofield has steadily built an impressive resume, stringing together victories while showcasing his versatility, technical skill and relentless drive inside the ring. But his journey to the top extends far beyond boxing. Early in his life, Schofield and his father experienced homelessness, spending months living in a shelter. Those challenges helped shape the person and fighter he is today, fueling his passion for giving back to his community and inspiring others through his story.

Now, with an undefeated record, a growing collection of statement victories and the WBA lightweight world title around his waist, “Kid Austin” has turned his lifelong dream into reality. From overcoming adversity outside the ring to conquering the division inside it, Schofield’s journey is only getting started as he looks to build his legacy among boxing’s elite.
